jack frost

Jack Frost is here and the he crop is not in. The oldest moan of them all, the farmers curse and blessing, the march of the seasons waits not. We had difficulties this year with a larger seed set, an illprepared field and some labour shortages. Starting late didn’t help either and a late start can lead to a reduction in bulb size which is the real concern. Shifting to weed mat might fix some of it, I’ll update you soon.

Jack Frost
is a personification of frost, ice, snow, sleet, winter, and freezing cold. He is a variant of Old Man Winter who is held responsible for frosty weather, nipping the fingers and toes in such weather, coloring the foliage in autumn, and leaving fern-like patterns on cold windows in winter.

19th-century cartoon depicting Jack Frost as a United States major-general during the American Civil War

Starting in late 19th century literature, more developed characterizations of Jack Frost depict him as a sprite-like character, sometimes appearing as a sinister mischief-maker or as a hero.
